How it works

How HyreSolar Works

Six steps, and you can stop at any of them. Most people who use this site never reach step six, which is fine — the first five are the part we think is actually undersupplied.

01 — Research

You arrive with a question: what does this cost, is my roof suitable, is the tax credit still available, why is my system producing nothing.

Our library covers those questions directly, and solar services breaks down each kind of work by what it actually involves, and solar by property type covers how the answer changes with the building. Nothing is gated, nothing asks for an email address to reveal an answer.

02 — Understand

How solar works is the explainer everything else assumes, and the FAQ covers the questions people ask most.

Solar has a vocabulary that exists partly to make comparison hard. Net metering against net billing. Dealer fee against cash price. Production guarantee against workmanship warranty against product warranty.

We define those in plain terms, because a homeowner who knows the difference between a workmanship warranty and a product warranty is a homeowner who cannot be sold a bad contract.

03 — Calculate

Our calculators let you put your own numbers in. Each one publishes its formula and its assumptions on the same page as the result, so you can see what it is doing and disagree with it.

None of them ask for your email before showing the answer.

04 — Compare

Loan against lease. Roof mount against ground mount. Battery against generator. String inverter against microinverters.

We do not name a winner in any of these, because the right answer depends on your rates, your roof and what you are trying to achieve. We set out what each option does well and who it tends to suit.

05 — Verify

Before you sign anything, check the company. License status, insurance, who is actually doing the installation, and what the contract says about the things that go wrong.

How to choose an installer sets out what to check, and how we vet sets out what we check. Verifying a license shows you how to check it yourself, which is the more useful skill.

06 — Connect

When and if you want quotes, tell us about your home. We match on service area, service type and property type, and pass your request to solar professionals who cover it.

You contract directly with whichever company you choose. HyreSolar is not a party to that contract, takes no cut of the job, and has no role in the work.

Straight answers to the awkward questions

Homeowners ask the same awkward questions before handing over a phone number, so HyreSolar answers them here rather than in a policy document.

What happens after I submit a request?

We check the request is complete and that we have solar professionals covering your area and the kind of work you described. If we do, your details are passed to them. If we do not, we tell you that instead of holding your details indefinitely.

Who will contact me?

Solar professionals serving your area, using the contact details you provided and the method you consented to. HyreSolar does not sell solar, so nobody from HyreSolar will call to sell you a system.

How is my information used?

It is used to match you with solar professionals who serve your area and to respond to your enquiry. It is not sold to data brokers or advertising networks. The privacy policy sets out retention and your rights in full.

Do you get paid for introductions?

That is the intended business model: solar professionals pay to receive homeowner enquiries. The specific pricing and routing terms are not finalised. Payment never buys editorial coverage or a recommendation.

Do you recommend one particular installer?

No. We do not rank solar companies or name a best one, because we have no objective methodology that would support that claim. We tell you what to check and you decide.

What do you not guarantee?

We do not guarantee that you will be contacted, how quickly, how many companies will respond, what they will quote, that any incentive applies to you, or that solar will save you money. Those depend on your roof, your utility, your tax position and the companies working in your market.

One thing worth repeating

HyreSolar is an independent solar information and homeowner-connection platform. We do not install, finance, maintain or service solar systems. Every figure on this site varies by location, utility, system design, incentives and individual tax circumstances.

More on who we are and how we handle commercial relationships. If you run a solar business rather than own a roof, see for solar professionals, how it works for professionals and the partner application.
