Every figure on this site that we computed ourselves is
downloadable. The files below are generated from the same dataset
the pages read, at the same moment the pages are built, so a number in a
table and the same number in a download cannot drift apart.

Licence and attribution
Use them. Republish them. Build on them. We ask for two things, which is the
whole licence:
The underlying EIA data is US federal government output and is in the public
domain. What we add is the derivation — the ratios, the rankings and the
per-account arithmetic — and that is what the attribution is for.
What these numbers are, and are not
Columns marked HyreSolar calculation in the file headers are
derived by us. EIA publishes the inputs — capacity, installations,
residential sales, revenue and customer accounts — and does not publish these
ratios. Treat them as our analysis of EIA data, not as official statistics.
Columns not marked that way are reported figures taken from the source files
without modification.

Vintage
Form EIA-861 lags by roughly two years. These files are the 2024 final
release, retrieved 2 September 2026. The partial 2025 early
release is deliberately excluded, because mixing an early release into a
series of final ones produces a break that looks like a finding.
When the next final release lands we re-run the pipeline, and the pages and
these files update together.

If you want a figure broken out differently — a different year, a subset of
states, or a derivation we have not published — ask.
We would rather give you the cut you need than have the number reconstructed
incorrectly from a chart.
